November 2025: Kumi Community Update

This month, Kumi Community Foundation continued its outreach work across Eastern Uganda, focusing on identifying children in need of medical care and supporting preparations for upcoming surgical interventions.

Community Outreach Clinics

During this week’s outreach clinic, our team saw 43 children, each assessed to understand their medical needs and determine the most appropriate next steps for care.

Among those seen were children requiring support for conditions including cerebral palsy, gluteal fibrosis, valgus knee deformities, spinal conditions and club foot. These clinics play a vital role in reaching families who may otherwise struggle to access specialist healthcare services.

By working directly within communities, we are able to identify children early, provide guidance to families, and ensure no one is overlooked.

Preparing for Surgical Support

Alongside the outreach clinics, we are supporting preparations for the Dutch surgeon’s upcoming quarterly surgical camp. Kumi Community Foundation helps identify and refer patients from both clinics and surrounding communities, ensuring children who need surgery are able to access timely treatment.

Currently, over 50 children are on the list for gluteal fibrosis assessment and potential surgery, with additional referrals continuing to come in.

Putting Education First

With children now beginning their Christmas school holidays, surgical procedures are being scheduled during the school break wherever possible. This approach helps minimise disruption to education, allowing children to continue learning while receiving the medical care they need.

Looking Ahead

These outreach clinics and surgical camps are a reminder of the importance of early intervention, accessible healthcare, and community-based support. Every assessment brings us one step closer to improving mobility, independence and quality of life for children and their families.

We’re grateful to our partners, volunteers and supporters who make this work possible — and we look forward to sharing further updates as this vital work continues.
