Mobility Aids

For people with disabilities in rural Uganda, the right mobility equipment can be life-changing.
Access to specialist healthcare, rehabilitation and suitable equipment can be extremely limited, while stigma surrounding disability can create further barriers to education, employment and participation in community life.
KCF works with partners including Wheels for the World and PhysioNet to provide wheelchairs, crutches and other mobility aids to people identified through our community outreach work. Every individual is assessed so that equipment can be adapted to their specific needs with the support of specialist therapists and technicians.
And our support doesn’t stop when the equipment is provided. Mobility aids need to be maintained, repaired and adapted as circumstances change — particularly as children grow. Where appropriate, equipment can also be refurbished and passed on to someone else who needs it.
Because mobility is about far more than getting from one place to another. It can mean greater independence, access to education and work, and the freedom to participate fully in everyday life.
