Wheelchair Distribution Camps

Access to the right mobility equipment can transform someone’s independence, but across rural Uganda, wheelchairs and other essential aids can be extremely difficult to access.

KCF initially partnered with Wheels for the World to deliver large-scale distribution camps at Kumi Hospital, bringing together specialist physiotherapists and occupational therapists to assess individuals and ensure equipment was properly fitted and adapted to their needs.

The impact was significant — and the unmet need was even greater.

In response, KCF established Wheels for Kumi, enabling us to run our own distribution camps more regularly. With funding from the Rope Trust and equipment supplied in partnership with PhysioNet, hundreds of donated and refurbished wheelchairs, crutches, walking frames and other mobility aids have since been shipped to Kumi.

Our community team identifies people who need support and helps them reach the distribution camps, where each person is individually assessed and matched with appropriate equipment.

Following successful camps in 2024 and 2026, Wheels for Kumi continues to grow, with further equipment shipments and distribution camps planned.
